Croatia Captain and Los Blancos midfielder Luka Modric has spoken to FIFA about the ongoing brawl between Real Madrid and Italian side Inter Milan, according to reports.
As claimed by Express, Luka Modric has told FIFA that it was he who contacted the Nerazzurri over a potential move to Italy in the summer.
For those who don’t know, Real Madrid were unhappy about the ongoing rumours of Modric to Inter and thus complained to FIFA about Inter’s approach to sign the Croatian.
The Real Madrid midfielder leads his country to their first ever World Cup final at Russia. Unfortunately, the Croatian side fell short and the Los Blancos star had to settle for the Golden ball as France emerged victorious in the final.
Luka Modric is reportedly looking for a move away from Bernabeu. The Croatian wants to follow Cristiano to Italy to start a fresh challenge. Inter Milan are the side, who was heavily linked with the 32-year old midfielder.
Luka Modric’s desire to sign for the Nerazzurri means the former Tottenham man could join his fellow countrymen Marcelo Brozovic, Ivan Perisic and Sime Vrsaljko, who all play for Inter. Inter manager and director also expressed their desire to get the signature of the midfielder.
Things didn’t go well with the Spanish side, who thought it was unethical from Inter to contact Modric. As a result, the Los Blancos complained to FIFA over an alleged violation of Article 18 of the transfer regulations which states that a club couldn’t make contact with a player directly without the permission of the parent club.
However, the transfer saga took a wild turn as Luka Modric himself admitted that it was he who contacted the Italian side over a potential transfer. Earlier, it was reported that Modric’s wife was the one, who first contacted Inter.
Many believe that Modric is using Inter’s name to get an advanced deal with the European champions. On the other hand, Real Madrid is hell-bent on keeping the midfielder at Bernabeu as Los Blancos couldn’t deal with the departure of another star player after Cristiano Ronaldo.
